Full Job Description - Sales Associate 

Meet Magical Child 

Magical Child has been a part of the downtown Encinitas neighborhood for 25 years! We offer a carefully curated selection of products that speak to our community. We have become a go to for all things baby and children, from clothes and shoes to toys and gifts. Our goal is to provide a welcoming atmosphere for families to grow with us over the years, whether they live locally or visit annually on vacations we aim to make everyone’s day a little more magical. 

Position Summary 

Becoming a sales associate at Magical Child means being highly motivated, friendly, well versed in brand knowledge, and ready to take the extra step to make the customers day. 

We are looking for a part-time sales associate with open availability during the week and including the Holidays to join our upbeat team. Although it's part-time there are always opportunities for growth at Magical Child. Experience is retail is highly desired for this position.

We’ll want you to…

  • Provide excellent communication with customers and team members
  • Regularly move around all store areas and be accessible to customers 
  • Work in a high paced multi task environment 
  • Take direction while also being self sufficient 
  • Maintain the stores visual appearance i.e. restock, merchandize, create displays  
  • Ensure the sales floor in neat and tidy i.e. straighten, size, fold
  • Meet sales goals 
  • Cashier using POS system 
  • Have a basic understanding of technology and ability to learn new technology quickly
    • Checking stores social media and website 
    • Uploading inventory 
    • Navigating POS system 
  • Answer calls and assist over the phone
  • Complete closing and opening task, including store and bathroom cleaning 
  • Be eager to learn new skills and be receptive to feedback 


  • A minimum of one year relatable customer service experience
  • Retail experience highly preferred
  • Flexible schedule. Must be available during weekends and Holidays
  • Must be accountable for scheduled shifts and be punctual 
  • Must be able to stand for long periods, climb ladders, lift 30+ pounds 
  • Have reliable transportation to and from 
  • Professional demeanor and selling style, with excellent communication skills  
  • Self motivated, with high energy and engaging level of enthusiasm 
  • Strong organizational skills and follow through skills
  • Ability to quickly learn new procedures and processes

Bonus Qualifications 

  • Experience in fashion/style 
  • Experience in merchandising 
  • Experience in sales and marketing 

Part time 25-30 hours per week 

Pay is based on experience $16-18 per hour 

Open availability including the Holidays required 

No night shifts
